Carrie, I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all your support leading up to the birth of our little man on Friday. Your classes and workshop were absolutely invaluable and really made a huge difference to our labour and birth experience. I do hope to be back for mums and bubs yoga down the track but thought you might like an update.
I had a successful VBAC and I am totally and utterly stoked and over the moon with the experience. My labour was officially 5 hrs 40 mins, went from walking around the house doing washing to 4 contractions in 10 mins in the space of about half an hour. I was fully dilated when I arrived at hospital (at least when they did an internal, not sure how long I had been there by then but it wasn't long). I did have a bit of a swollen cervical lip at the front from all my forward leaning (trying to encourage anterior!) so had to change to standing positions to relieve this, and reduce my pushing urge which was basically uncontrollable, my uterus was pushing and I couldn't stop it! So I laboured standing and squatting (how bout that squat bar?!!) for 2-3 hrs when the OB came to check, confirming Bub was posterior and unable to come out (but was too far down & engaged for any positioning to help). So he suggested he could try suction while I pushed to turn him which would get him out - but that if it didn't work he would have to do a c-sec. I don't know how but I totally managed to keep it together and focus and not even this comment bothered me! My husband did all the right things thanks to your workshop even challenging the OB with 'BRAN'! We consented to the suction and 4 contractions later I reached down and popped my baby on my chest. OMG, I am still amazed!! We got heaps of skin to skin, lay in the birthing suite with our music still playing for maybe half hour or so while he crawled his way to each nipple and suckled like a pro. I'll never forget that as long as I live, the most amazing thing I have ever experienced. I am so happy with the outcome and the whole experience it's almost enough to make me go back for more (clearly hormones talking ha ha!). Xavier is a super chilled out little man and I have to think it must be all that yoga and calm breathing I did rubbing off on him. I thought of you often during labour all the tips and things you said were firmly implanted in my head and I was on another planet for the whole duration, never lost focus even when I had to get onto my back for delivery, which is probably the most painful thing I have ever done. I didn't even think about drugs let alone ask for them. It truly was a healing birth experience for me and my husband and we are so thankful for everything you taught us, things could have turned out very differently otherwise. Holly X |
