what is a doula?
A birth doula helps expectant couples prepare for birth physically and mentally, accompanying and guiding them through the birth process so they can meet their babies with joy. Doulas complement rather than replace midwives.
A doula’s role is to be there for both the mother and father, to offer a loving understanding, to respond to their deepest emotional needs, stay with them throughout labour and birth and to create an atmosphere in which the birth can be as positive as possible. A doula is there as a support for both parents and will help the couple work together according to their wishes.

Research and trials have shown that using a doula shortened labour, massively reduced the need for pain relief and medical intervention and resulted in healthier babies. Mothers who had used a doula reported less post-natal depression, greater self-esteem and more confidence about breast-feeding and baby care.
Evidence has shown that women supported by a doula during labour have been shown to have:
60% reduction in epidural requests
50% reduction of caesarean rate
40% reduction in assisted delivery
30% reduction in analgesia use
25% shorter labour

I have experience in vaginal births, c-sections, instrumental deliveries, water births, inductions, VBACs, epidurals, sterile water injections, syntocinon, and know about hospital policies and medical interventions, I've attended private hospital, public hospital and home births. Unfortunately, I'm not able to doula for as many as I'd like - so instead my energy is now dedicated to the PREPARATION of mum and her SUPPORT person, handing over the skills, the tools and the knowledge to couples who are consciously seeking an empowering birth experience - no matter how birth unfolds.
