Hi! I'm Carrie Jeff, creator of Joymamma.

I'm a Birth Doula, Hypnotherapist (ABH USA), Steering Committee Member for HypnoBirthing International in Australia, Active Birth Educator and an Experienced Yoga Teacher (EYT-200, RYT-500), Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher (RPYT) and Continuing Educator Provider (YACEP) with Yoga Alliance. Joymamma is a Registered Prenatal Yoga School (RPYS) with Yoga Alliance.

My own journey through pregnancy, birth and motherhood began 25 years ago, I have brought 3 beautiful souls into the world and have personal experience of birthing in hospital with epidural, homebirth, waterbirth and hypnobirthing. My passion for teaching began from simple beginnings - holding Prenatal Yoga classes in my home back in 2012 when the kids were at school.

Joymamma has grown into a thriving community of women supporting women. Over the years I have owned two yoga studios on the Sunshine Coast and have been honoured to provide space for women as they move through the most sacred work of their lives, to guide them through the ancient practices of Yoga and Meditation and and to help them incorporate these practices into the modern way of birth management.

I am also very excited to be able to train and mentor Yoga Teachers, midwives and other professionals working with pregnant women with my upcoming Pregnancy Yoga Teacher Training which consists of 85 hrs of speciality training that meets Yoga Alliance training standards.

My husband, Steve (who teaches under his own business name YogaJak) and I closed our beautiful studio in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast in September 2020. Since the closure, classes, courses and trainings have been held at at various studios around the Coast and are now held live online via Zoom.

Our eldest daughter, Maya, is also part of our teaching team. Maya became a yoga teacher in 2014 at the age of 15 and has since certified as a Children's Yoga Teacher and a Pregnancy Yoga Teacher. Maya also runs her own business @soulsinsync_ educating women around the power of the menstrual cycle.

As lead trainer of Joymamma Registered Prenatal Yoga School, I am passionate about certifying Pregnancy Yoga Teachers who can confidently teach from a place of safety. Graduates from the Pregnancy Yoga Teacher Training will be able to prepare women physically for birth; focusing on creating more room in their pelvis for baby to get into a good position, building stamina to endure the intensity of labour and building strength in their legs so they can remain upright and active during labour. Graduates learn how to observe and ensure pregnant yoga students breathe correctly and encourage them to listen and trust their feelings and intuition and ultimately empower them to make good decisions about their body, their baby and their birth. Yoga also provides women the skills to prepare mentally for birth; we know the mind gives up before the body does.

As a HypnoBirthing specialist and Steering Committee member of HypnoBirthing International Australia, I help couples feel confident about the birth process which has become over-complicated and feared and give them tools and techniques to prepare them to have the best possible experience and to face any turn their birthing takes together as team. Channel 7 News has featured two stories from the Joymamma community; the birth of Maple and the birth of Lucy - and the Sunshine Coast Daily has featured the birth of George.

During my time as a doula, I have accompanied many HypnoBirthing students into their birth space and helped support them physically and emotionally. It is an honour and a privilege to help couples bring their baby into the world feeling empowered and in control. I have had experience in supporting vaginal births, c-sections, instrumental deliveries, water births, inductions, VBACs, epidurals, sterile water injections, syntocinon and know about hospital policies and medical interventions, I've attended private hospital, public hospital and home births. Unfortunately, I'm not able to doula for as many as I'd like - so instead my energy is now dedicated to the PREPARATION of mum and her SUPPORT person, handing over the skills, the tools and the knowledge to couples who are consciously seeking an empowering birth experience - no matter how birth unfolds.

Birth is unpredictable and we may not get our perfect birth. Having skills to stay focused, present and grounded enables a woman to move through her labour with confidence, even if things don’t go according to plan.

As a mother, I understand your feelings surrounding this big adjustment to your life; the inevitable fear of the unknown, how your lifestyle and relationships will change, the challenges you will face breastfeeding, the emotional roller coaster you’ll ride.
