Chris and I welcomed our amazing little man Luca into the world on the 1st November.
I woke around 1am with early contractions and some back pain. I jumped into the bath around 3 am and called Chris home from work as they were about 4 mins apart. We spent the whole day at home as the surges kept going up and down in intensity and were not coming regularly. We spent the day pacing around our garden (I have now renamed one side of our house 'contraction alley'!!), I listened to Rainbow relaxation and affirmations, Chris read to me and massaged my back, I sat on the birth ball making sure to use the surge breathing and did some squats and yoga poses. Chris and I felt very calm and in control all day but by 6 pm I was getting rather tired and wondering if things were ever going to progress. We went to the hospital to get checked as I wanted to know where I was at. They monitored bub and he was doing well and said I was 4 cms so we could stay or go home. It felt right being at the hospital so we said we were going to stay. Chris went over our birth preferences with the midwife and we said we wanted to use the bath however the midwife said it was too early for me to go in the bath and she would see how I was going in a couple of hours. (Chris noticed that the bathroom was being used so I think they were stalling me as the bath was not available). The midwife got me into a hot shower instead which felt great. She said bubs chin probably wasn't tucked enough and my cervix was still quite thick so I alternated my legs up on a stool in the shower and did some gentle hip rocking which did the trick. 2.5 hrs later we birthed Luca in the shower. I was on my knees leaning over a birth ball and Luca came so quickly! Chris did not have time to get into position and catch him. It even took the midwife by surprise. About 15 mins before his birth, the midwife said she had to go check some other ladies and would be back in a while...I quickly said to her that I was ready to birth him and she said all first time Mum's get the urge to push early. I insisted that the baby was coming so she had a quick check and sure enough the head was right down so she got mirrors and lights and everything organised and didn't leave the room!! The birthing was so intense for me so I did get rather out of breath and found it hard to focus on the Birth breathing. His entrance into the world was so fast that my Yoni required quite a bit of stitching but nothing that won't heal over time! Chris was such an amazing support all day and we both feel so grateful for the HypnoBirthing classes. You really empowered us to learn about birthing, to understand our options and choices and to work together through each stage of labour. We can't thank you enough Carrie, I know my labour story would be very different without your HypnoBirthing and yoga classes. What you offer families of the Sunshine Coast is such an amazing gift ❤️❤️ Fiona xx |
