While the books you read and the hospital birth classes can help prepare you intellectually for labour and birth, the intention for this workshop is to give you the tools to help you physically and emotionally for the journey through labour and birth.

"Please note, this workshop does not include HypnoBirthing techniques, this requires additional time and commitment.
Carrie Jeff

Yoga inspired birth positions and breathing techniques have helped so many women cope with the hours of labour; now your partner can also learn how to support you physically and emotionally and play a part in this life changing event.

Taught by Hypnobirthing Childbirth Educator and Birth Doula, Carrie Jeff, this workshop combines childbirth education with hypnobirthing principles, yoga and meditation techniques to prepare couples physically and mentally for birth.

Feeling safe and supported during labour is vital to how your nervous system responds. The hospital midwife will not be there for every contraction you have. They have other women to support and have paperwork, blood pressure, baby monitoring and other tasks to get through. Your emotional support comes from your own birth partner.

Having a partner who understands this, who can help you with breathing techniques for the different stages of labour, offer you massage and give you physical support to get into different labour and birth positions means that you can concentrate, stay grounded and focused and in connection with baby.

"Hi Carrie . Thank you so much for going to all the effort to do your class online. Sure was a different way however we are so grateful to have been able to still participate. Saturday was the first time using zoom and I must say that is was so much easier than I was expecting. A simple click on the link you had sent through and there we all were. We had no issues with connection or sound. It was great you could mute everyone so there was no interruption with background noises and when we needed to ask questions we could.  You have done a great job with it all.  It was quite warming to learn during your class that the fathers have just as an important and hands on role as the mums do, that its more about team work than anything.  A huge thank you again, we have taken a lot away from your class and will highly recommend you to others. "
"Hi Carrie.  The workshop went really well. I know it must have been completely different for you to deliver online rather than face-to-face workshops.  Your explanations were good and gave us enough time to focus on what we needed to take-away.  The sound and video quality were good as well. Couldn't fault it, I love Zoom.  My partner really enjoyed having a hands-on learning experience, with some really helpful tools to make him feel apart of the process. We haven't had a birthing class like that, SCUH class is all about medical interventions and drug options. Last time we both had no idea what to do and he felt hopeless while I was in pain. I think he feels more in control, confident and able to help.  The biggest takeaways for us would be the visual diagrams of the birthing positions using gravity, the transitioning from home to hospital and linking that to the stress response, birthing of the placenta (I had no idea), and of course the practical hands-on skills were amazing! (i just have to remember them, practice them, and then use them). Thank you so much!"
Your job is to dilate and open and a calm birthing environment will help you achieve this. This workshop is aimed at providing you and your support person important information on how to do this, allowing optimal positive hormonal release.

Endorphins are our own reserve of pain killers, designed to help us cope with the power of birth. We discuss how birth partners can help you tap into these powerful hormones. Your birth partner will learn the signs of labour and when the right time is to go to hospital. For many women, a lot of early labour can be done peacefully at home in your own environment. These relaxed, informative workshops are designed to give you and your birth partner an overview of what to expect from labour and how the birthing body works.

You will be given the opportunity to build confidence to enhance your birthing experience, in a small and supportive environment. Each birth takes its own course, learn how to trust your body, your baby and the process of birthing.

You will learn about the body’s natural coping mechanisms and how the body is able to open easily during a hormone led birth. Most of the natural birthing process is undertaken by the primal brain centres.  The female body and brain is designed to give birth with little input from the rational, analytical cortex.

Studies show that being upright and active in birth leads to a faster, less painful and safe experience for both mother and baby. Yoga inspired birth positions and breathing techniques have helped so many women cope with the hours of labour; now your partner can also learn how to support you physically and emotionally and play a part in this life changing event. Explore poses that are often used by women during labour and learn how to move and breathe together, connect with each other and your baby and work with your intuition and your body's guidance.

Partners learn hands on skills to help ease the intensity of labour and birth.

breathwork

The breath is a path that will lead to focusing your mind and help you stay grounded - this will be your biggest tool in labour, birth and parenthood. You will learn that it is the mental, busy mind that keeps schedules and analyses that gets scared and feels the fear. Avoiding this is important if you want your brain to release pain relieving hormones, endorphins. In this workshop we will practice several different yogic breathing techniques (pranayama) for pregnancy, labour and birth. These will become a part of your toolbox for you to use at any time.

Partners learn these techniques too and are then able to help you practice and keep you on track should you become distracted.
