At 37 1/2 weeks I was told I needed to be induced asap as my placenta was not providing bub with enough nutrients. My husband and I were quite upset as we were worried it wouldn't be the hypnobirthing experience we had been practising and hoping for.
I was given 2 lots of gel over 12 hrs and then after a few more hours I had my waters broken and the doctors wanted to give me the syntocinon drip which we kindly refused. The doctor said she would wait 2-4 hrs before she would give me the drip, but no longer. My hubby had enough time to dim the lights, put on our salt lamp, oil diffuser (with lavender), relaxation music and give me a quick massage with the birthing oil before things started to happen. Our plan was to either have a water birth or use the shower for pain relief and birth the baby standing up. Things started to get intense quickly. I used the shower briefly but was too hot and cold (so the bath definitely wouldn't have worked for me, even if we had the time). I rolled around on the birth ball briefly then went to the toilet, then before I knew it I was leaning over the basin pushing. I was not intending to push as I wanted to breathe my baby down, but something took over and my body was doing the pushing. The midwife told me it was too soon to be pushing then she checked me while I was standing, leaning over the bed and she said to my husband 'Oh wow we're having a baby in 10 minutes!' Within minutes our baby boy was born. I was standing and hubby caught him from behind. Even though it wasn't exactly how we'd planned it, I wouldn't change a thing. It was such an amazing experience. I remembered my breathing when I was pushing and I didn't have any drugs or gas. Labour was under 2 1/2 hrs. Thank you so much for everything you taught us Carrie! Elle and Brett xox |
