Carrie Jeff

A 5 WEEK GROUP PROGRAM TO EDUCATE AND EMPOWER YOU FOR A POSITIVE BIRTH EXPERIENCE
1-1 sessions and small private groups held at home studio in Mt Creek, address given upon booking
INCLUDES YOGA FOR BIRTH CLASSES FROM 34 WKS

Your partner has a big role to ensure you have the best chance of a physiological birth, which requires you be as undisturbed as possible. There are so many things to know about supporting a woman during birth, that don't require clinical or medical training. You and your partner will have my support via email or text right up until birth - additional HypnoBirthing sessions closer to birth are also available, should you need them at no additional charge.

How to book HypnoBirthing classes?

Scroll down to the  bottom of this page to find course dates. Due to the Corona Virus and strict social distance measures, class numbers will be limited. A deposit is required when booking to secure your place. Please contact carrie@joymamma.com.au if you have any questions.

"Hi Carrie . Thank you so much for going to all the effort to do your class online. Sure was a different way however we are so grateful to have been able to still participate.
Saturday was the first time using zoom and I must say that is was so much easier than I was expecting. A simple click on the link you had sent through and there we all were. We had no issues with connection or sound. It was great you could mute everyone so there was no interruption with background noises and when we needed to ask questions we could.  You have done a great job with it all.  It was quite warming to learn during your class that the fathers have just as an important and hands on role as the mums do, that its more about team work than anything.  A huge thank you again, we have taken a lot away from your class and will highly recommend you to others. "
"Hi Carrie.  The workshop went really well. I know it must have been completely different for you to deliver online rather than face-to-face workshops.  Your explanations were good and gave us enough time to focus on what we needed to take-away.  The sound and video quality were good as well. Couldn't fault it, I love Zoom.  My partner really enjoyed having a hands-on learning experience, with some really helpful tools to make him feel apart of the process. We haven't had a birthing class like that, SCUH class is all about medical interventions and drug options. Last time we both had no idea what to do and he felt hopeless while I was in pain. I think he feels more in control, confident and able to help.  The biggest takeaways for us would be the visual diagrams of the birthing positions using gravity, the transitioning from home to hospital and linking that to the stress response, birthing of the placenta (I had no idea), and of course the practical hands-on skills were amazing! (i just have to remember them, practice them, and then use them). Thank you so much!"

"We went to normal classes run by the government and although that’s better than nothing – HypnoBirthing classes with Carrie are absolutely superior. I watched fear get broken down and turned into genuine confidence and empowerment. All the guys in our class felt the same way. I cannot recommend Carrie and HypnoBirthing enough – don’t be stubborn – give it a go fellas! You and your partner will be so glad you did."

Carrie thank you SO much for guiding my husband and I so gracefully through the journey of pregnancy and motherhood (parenthood). We couldn't have done it without you! The birth of our daughter Poppy was the most incredible experience of my life and it created such an amazing bond between my husband and I because we did it together. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Candice Strybos, Bali

HypnoBirthing The Mongan Method is the most comprehensive antenatal course available. The successful outcomes after eight years teaching this course to couples on the Sunshine Coast, prove that this programme really does work. I don't promise anyone they'll have a painless, quiet birth, but it will transform the experience for both mother and father. In my role as birth doula, I have witnessed this firsthand. It is an honour to accompany students into their birth space, a truly sacred privilege to be a part of.

JOYMAMMA

HypnoBirthing Childbirth Education Program

Sunshine Coast, Queensland

What Is HypnoBirthing?

HypnoBirthing is a 5 week childbirth education course, based on the belief that for a healthy woman having a healthy baby, birth is a normal, natural bodily function. Birth is an event that we need to train for, physically and mentally. HypnoBirthing is designed to help couples understand their options so they feel excited and prepared. It is a toolkit of physical and mental skills which empower couples to welcome the events of labour and birth, however they unfold.

HypnoBirthing might sound ‘new age’ but it is simply a set of very logical steps that every woman should know about, that make a very big difference to the birthing process. HypnoBirthing gives you so much more than a traditional antenatal class.  Regardless of where you are birthing, or how your birthing unfolds, the aim is to make the experience of your baby’s arrival joyful.  Each birth is going to take its own course and no-one can predict what journey your baby will take.  You will learn how to trust your body, your baby and the process of birthing.

HypnoBirthing teaches you to release all prior programming about birth, how to trust your body and work with it as well as how to free yourself of harmful emotions that lead to pain-causing fear and unyielding muscles.

Many parents (Dads in particular!) attend the first session with scepticism but when they learn that HypnoBirthing is based on medical and physiological facts, not some ‘airy fairy’ nonsense, they are ALL completely convinced.  You just need to have an open mind and the motivation to succeed.

Our very intelligent body knows how to birth a baby (it does a pretty good job of growing one too). We start to confuse it when we question and manipulate a natural instinctive process. A woman’s uterus is perfectly designed to birth, but in order for the outlet of the uterus to open and allow the baby to move down, through and out into the birth path, the muscle fibres need to relax.

It’s important to understand that labour and birth are involuntary, the uterus contracts spontaneously first to open the womb and then to give birth to the baby. All of this happens without your conscious control. The breathing techniques taught in HypnoBirthing are designed to help you to work with these birthing muscles and to maximise their efficiency.

I would like to credit Carrie for the work in which she does and the support in which she gives. Paul and I are so grateful to have met her and would highly recommend anyone who is pregnant or planning on having a baby to see her. Each session Paul would come home and ask more questions and want to know more which for me was great as I think it prepared him to be a wonderful support partner.

What Is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a very natural state that everybody goes through every day. It’s the state right before you go to sleep when your mind is slowing down and the brain waves move through Beta and Alpha frequencies and reach Theta (just before the deep sleep of Delta).

Theta State is a state of very deep relaxation, it can be compared to that kind of trance where you can find children when they are playing with video games, a deep concentration. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

Although neuroscientists are just beginning to understand how the mind works, sufficient study has resulted in a very clearly defined set of Laws of the Mind, the most important Law of the Mind in regards to birthing is the Law of Psycho-Physical response. This law states that for every suggestion, thought or emotion one has, there is a corresponding physiological and chemical response within the body. What the mind chooses to accept or perceive as being real, the body accordingly responds to.

For most of their lives, women have been inundated with the negative stories of other women’s birth experiences. Everyone, from their mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, friends and even strangers, want to tell them the horrors of giving birth. During birthing what this actually means is if the mind is dwelling on fearful, negative images of birth, the body is thrown unintentionally into defence mode, prohibiting their bodies from easily performing a normal physiological function.

However, when your mind starts to believe birth is normal, your body’s hormones will follow and help you experience a more positive birth. When the mind relaxes, it is open to suggestions. With regular practice of HypnoBirthing techniques, new positive messages about birth become part of your belief system. Those who believe it will work will have better results!

With commitment to regularly practising Hypnobirthing during pregnancy, mothers are able to shut out distractions easily and go deeply into a place where endorphins are readily created. Using these techniques, women are now telling different birth stories, positive, empowering stories, many of which are available to read on our website.

17% of HypnoBirthing® mothers birthed via C-section, compared with the national average of 32%

How Does It Work?

When the birthing mother is relaxed during a normal labour, her body releases endorphins, nature’s “feel good” hormones that allow us to feel pleasure and block pain. As the sensations of birth get stronger and more powerful, so does the release of endorphins and women are able to go deeper and deeper into a wonderful space, where her body and baby do the work together.

The two subsidiary systems of the nervous system play a huge part in birthing.  The Parasympathetic system keeps the body and mind in a state of harmony and balance and restores and maintains the normal functions of our bodies.  When the birthing mother is relaxed during a normal labour, her body releases endorphins, nature’s “feel good” hormones that allow us to feel pleasure and block pain.

Endorphins block the release of stress hormones. If a birthing woman is not releasing stress hormones, the muscles of the uterus relax and the body opens. As the body relaxes it continues to secrete these natural tranquilizers which then enhances relaxation even more.

As the sensations of birth get stronger and more powerful, so does the release of endorphins and women are able to go deeper and deeper into a wonderful space, where her body and baby do the work together.

However, when the birthing mother is anxious, or feeling vulnerable, unsure, or unsafe, her Sympathetic system’s role is to act as the body’s defence system and instantly creates the ‘fight, flight, or freeze’ response within the body and responds, not just to actual threats, but to perceived threats. Stress hormones are then released and as the uterus is not part of our defence system, the arteries within the uterus constrict and close, causing considerable pain for the labouring mother. Dilation of the cervix can be long, slow and painful. The baby’s head presses against the closed cervix, causing more pain. Medical staff will determine labour is failing to progress and interventions are brought in which can lead to further issues.  The current c-section rate in Australia is 32.3%, more than double the rate the World Health Organization recommends and a 77% increase over the past 20 years.

Tension gets in the way of the natural birthing process, it’s as simple as that.

45% of HypnoBirthing mothers birthed in under 8 hours

When Should We Start?

We recommend you start between 20 and 30 weeks pregnant, giving you time to complete the 5 week course, absorb the content, practice the techniques and implement the skills into your daily life - BEFORE birth!! This is important - you will then naturally and instinctively know HOW you react to stress and when those strong sensations arrive you are able to release the tension and work WITH your body, rather than against it.

What Is My Partner's Role?

HypnoBirthing gives Dads the support and education to prepare THEM for birth! Often sceptical at first, then excited as they learn how they can play an important role in the birth of their child.

A partner's role in birth is to support the birthing woman physically and emotionally. In HypnoBirthing, Dads are taught how to read your body language and understand the behaviour of the nervous system and how stress affects birth. They play an integral role in keeping you on track and assisting you with breathing correctly, relaxation, massage, changing positions, liaising with medical staff ... and are responsible for protecting your birth environment, keeping it a calm and safe space for your body to birth.

What If My Partner Can't Attend Classes?

If your partner can't attend classes, they are welcome to attend via Zoom, or you can bring a friend or family member - or alternatively come along by yourself. You will benefit greatly from learning self-hypnosis and understanding the mind/body connection as it applies to physiological birthing. If you can't attend together because of work rosters, then contact us to discuss alternatives.

"Thank you Carrie for all of the strength and knowledge you have given me over my last two pregnancies. After a 40 hour, traumatic labour ending in an emergency c-section with our first I wanted to do my best to have a positive experience the second time around! I am so happy that I found you and that we experienced your HypnoBirthing course for our second birth. It was still long (at 20 hours) but it was a calm and beautiful birth with no drugs or intervention. Michael felt more empowered and more involved which was wonderful!"
Emma

"The Hypnobirthing class taught me something that I never thought was possible. To love and respect my wife more than I already did. For a man, birth is an extremely difficult thing to deal with, as we have no control. As we blokes all feel, it is our duty to be in control of situation, to keep our loved ones safe and out of harm’s way. But in the birthing suite, there is very little a man can do except one pivotal thing… SUPPORT!"
JOEL

What Do The Guys Say About HypnoBirthing?

"The class gave me a really good understanding of how I could play an important role in the birth of our child. I definitely would not have been very well prepared had I not done HypoBirthing. The whole HypnoBirthing experience was very worthwhile. I would definitely recommend any new Dads support their partners and do the HypnoBirthing classes. We will definitely be doing a refresher with Carrie if we have more children in the future."

Jared

"I really want to take the time to make it clear to all the guys out there about HypnoBirthing – don’t pay much attention to the name if it bothers you. If you want to be educated and give your partner the absolute best possible preparation before birthing, and learn how to actively be involved and be an integral part of welcoming your new son or daughter into the world – sign up for Carrie’s class."

Andy

"The classes opened my mind to a different side of the birthing world that I didn’t think was possible. I loved all of the techniques we learnt together, how to breathe correctly and stay relaxed and calm. I was never interested in classes at school but the way Carrie taught I was fixated every week. The biggest thing I took away from HypnoBirthing was how strong the mind and body really is. The way Carrie explained everything made it easy and fun to understand, and I just wanted to keep learning more and more. I feel we are all extremely privileged to have Carrie / Joymamma available to us on the Sunshine Coast. With Carrie's love and support we achieved our beautiful birthing experience. Thank you!"
Jack

"Initially, I assumed that HypnoBirthing was just another money making scandal that new age mums jump on in some sort of fashion craze. Oh how wrong I was. If HypnoBirthing can do one thing for you as a man, it is teaching you how to support your better half. How to encourage her. How to reassure her. How to read her body language and to nurture her. Most importantly, it taught me that as a man, I have a role to play in birth. My wife does not need to do this alone, scared or frightened. Instead, as a team, we birthed our daughter into this world together, calmly, quietly, and more in love with each other than ever before."
Joel

"My partner was able to birth like a boss, and be in control and empowered throughout the whole birth without medication or doctors intervention, but there was something else... I was able to be a part of my babies birth. I hear every dad say how awesome it is to see bub for the first time and I agree. The second best thing I've ever seen was the love of my life turn into a goddess, a warrior, a picture of focus and strength and to be in control of what was happening! And I was able to help her to do that."
Beau

"At first I was a bit sceptical about the benefits of Hypnobirthing however having completed the course and having seen the outcomes during labour I can't speak highly enough of the value that this course provides to the prep for the big day."
Adam

"My wife introduced me to the concept of Hypnobirthing, she asked me to read the book and at first, I did simply to humour her. Then I started to realise what this book was saying and how much the concept made sense. We had the most amazing, calm, quick home water birth, I was an active participant in the whole process. Hypnobirthing made our experience. Let me know if you want to talk more about it!  I’d be happy to chat!"
Jon
Carrie was a vital part of our support and education in this journey and I'm over joyed to share I achieved my med-free, VBAC, water-birth. Samantha
The most significant thing that I took away from classes was a deep trust in my body and its ability to work with our baby to have a positive birth experience. Rachel
I cannot thank you enough for the pivotal role you played in our journey, the knowledge you shared in hypnobirthing class and for being present at his birth. Sara

3rd trimester Birth Ready Yoga Sessions

You will have six yoga classes included with the HypnoBirthing course which are held on Monday and Wednesday mornings. **Class times will be changing to just Wednesdays in Feb 2021.

Come and re-connect with the other women from your HypnoBirthing course as you journey together and support each other as birth approaches.

I'll bring to these small, personalised sessions the tools and techniques I've developed over my years of learning, including yoga, relaxation and meditation. We can explore ways to create more space in your body to assist baby to move into a good position for birthing, do fear release visualisation or yoga nidra birth rehearsal to move into your birth with confidence. We may get the fit ball out if your body is tired, or use a rebozo to bring you some comfort as the weight of baby increases.

These yoga sessions give you what your body needs. Even with certain pregnancy complications, I can modify poses for your body's own uniqueness, and provide resources for you to practice at home. Class numbers are small and you will
feel fully supported - and ready to meet your baby.

Followed by morning tea and chats, you are able to deepen your connection and friendships with other women who are also very close to meeting their baby.

I provide evidence-based information that can assist in decision making and I will support you in researching and finding further medical information if necessary. I can connect you with other reputable pregnancy and birthing services on the Sunshine Coast, who I personally recommend.

This offering is a unique and holistic package that will help you approach birth with confidence, strength and excitement.
