Organic and Euphoric
I always dreamt of having a baby in the most calm environment with my husband Adam. We have a soul connection like no other and I knew we would be great parents! I researched HypnoBirthing back when I first fell pregnant. This little one was not meant to be and ended in a silent miscarriage. Although this was extremely sad at the time we are strong believers in everything happening for a reason and we just wanted a happy and healthy bub! We waited a few months and fell pregnant again. I was so sure that HypnoBirthing was for us! I spoke to my Naturopath and she suggested a few names. After reading testimonials on the Joymamma page I knew Carrie was the one for us! My husband worked fly in, fly out at the time so when we connected with Carrie about lesson times she was able to support us with flexibility and we took up Private Hypnobirthing Coaching. We walked away after each session feeling empowered and positive that we were going to have a beautiful birth... and, if that was not going to be the case we knew that the techniques we learned would help us stay in control regardless of the outcome. We took a quick trip to Straddie after I finished up working, little did we know we would be meeting our baby boy a few days after we got back! My waters broke after midnight at 36 wks 6 days ... we knew a hospital visit was necessary due to being early. We attended the hospital, had a check up and after chatting about the next steps we chose to head home and try to start our labour organically. Adam and I set up our calm space at home (dark room, yoga mat, candles, visualisation cards and our HypnoBirthing book). We were able to bring on our labour a few hours later! We were desperately trying to avoid being induced which was on the cards for the next morning due to infection risks. After labouring at home for approx 5 hrs we made our way into the hospital. We were monitored but left alone for the remaining time. We had discussed our birth plan with the team there and they knew what we were trying to achieve. I was not checked for dilation through the whole process and we were left in our room which was comfortable for us. We used every technique Carrie had taught us, focusing on each breath trying to open up for our baby. In the morning I was getting tired and was falling asleep between surges. I woke up at one stage and this was it! I felt the urge to push! We spent the following 1 and 1/2 hours in active labour. At around 9:15am our Obstetrician discussed vacuum assistance if required but both myself and bub were fine. My husband made the call to hold off. Our baby boy was born in the most calm environment at the perfect time for him and I at 9:29 am. He was perfect. We cried and cried and knew we had done it! 15 hrs, no drugs, no assistance, no tears. The perfect birth for us. When I tell my story I talk about how euphoric our experience was and although we did the hard work we put it down to the support Carrie gave us and the confidence to make our own choices and trust my body. Even though I love having control of each situation this was the time for my husband to step up and take control off me and boy, did he do an amazing job! Our Jaxon is almost 6 months old now and he lights up our lives in every single way! Thank you Carrie for your beautiful nature and endless support in helping make this our birth story to remember!
