Carrie Jeff is a Birth Doula, HypnoBirthing Australian Steering Committee Member, Active Birth Educator, Experienced Yoga Teacher (EYT-200, RYT-500), Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher (RPYT) and Continuing Educator Provider (YACEP) with Yoga Alliance. Carrie began training Pregnancy Yoga Teachers in 2018 working with the International Yoga Teachers Association. Created in 2012, Joymamma is a Registered Prenatal Yoga School (RPYS) with Yoga Alliance.

"I've helped thousands of women on their journey to motherhood and have been fortunate to attend some of their births. During the early years I was able to run classes around my kids' busy lives, and with a husband working away for weeks at a time, being able to create my own schedule gave me a great little part time job without too much disruption to managing the rest of life with a busy young family.

Picture
Back in 2012, when I created my Yoga for Birth program; it was for one woman who would come to my home (you can read her birth story here >>). After I'd got my 3 kids off to school., I would clear away the dining table and put yoga mats down. Not long after, a few more women joined us, I invested in some more yoga props and we then progressed to the garage space. I then had a business that was starting to evolve. On a side note, all that teaching from home must have planted some valuable seeds - my eldest daughter became a yoga teacher when she was 15!

Over my years of teaching, I've learned how vital it is for every pregnant woman to have access to this wealth of information yoga has, how much women need the practice of yoga during this time and how important the tools and practices are for them during their labour and birth. As a birth doula, I have seen women incorporate everything they've learnt on the mat into their birth experience, helping them to cope with the demands of childbirth.

After opening two yoga studios, I now have a thriving business that is not only professionally enriching - but on a personal level it is the most rewarding career I've ever had. Classes continue to fill, great birth stories keep coming and I see the wonderful growth of friendships that continue to flourish after babies have been born. The time has now come for me to share all that I've learnt - from each woman who has shown me something new, from the thousands of classes I've taught and the births I've attended - and now offer it to you in this in-depth Pre & Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training.

As I have held space and nurtured the pregnant women who have come into my life, my personal commitment to you (if you choose to come on this journey with me) is that I will support and guide you to deepen your knowledge, build your confidence and enhance your unique teaching style - and to also awaken your own personal growth and development."

Love Carrie xx

"Joymamma's PYTT was incredible. I am as bold to say it is the best YTT I have done. Carrie was professional and welcoming; each session felt like coming home. The space felt safe to give ideas and opinions and to ask questions without feeling judged. The content that was covered was so juicy and insightful! I learnt so many creative ways to adjust asana and the importance of connection to baby for an expecting mother. Carrie infused the koshas, breath work, meditation and asana into the perfect YTT.

Prior to Carrie's YTT I felt very unsure about teaching yoga to pregnant women. There have been several times when pregnant women had joined my regular classes and I felt overwhelmed with my lack of knowledge for how they could practise yoga safely.

Since Joymamma's training I feel completely confident and assured to teach pregnancy yoga and to modify poses in order to best suit pregnant students. The manual is my prenatal/postnatal bible. It is so full of information and tips. It has already been a huge reference source for me. The pictures help illustrate how a pose can be done or modified. And it encompasses so much more than asana: guided meditations, information about pregnancy and potential injury/pains to be aware of, yoga philosophy and so so so much more. Other trainings I have completed lacked material, but this manual is full of useful information. Every thing I have thought to improve on (I grabbed the book to check) is already in the manual! I loved the application. The schedule of each day was great. After learning something new, we were given the opportunity to apply it straight away. Although that can sometimes invoke nervousness I think the best way to get better at something is doing it.

I'm normally pretty good at offering improvements, however small, but I'm finding it so hard for this training. I think that speaks volumes to Carrie's understanding of women who need yoga during one of the most vulnerable times of their lives. Thank you Carrie! You're amazing. I'm so grateful for everything I have learned and even more excited to be implementing it all next year."

"Carrie, I loved the way you planned it out, the support & connection from the other women, the nutritious, delicious food, your guidance & support. I loved the learning, the brainstorming with the other ladies & then actually attempting to implement a sequence was super beneficial even when it felt out of my comfort zone.  I knew I’d be learning with women who were already yoga teachers. Whilst I knew I had confidence with anatomy etc it was daunting to not have the yoga teacher training behind me. Thank you for creating such a safe sacred space to learn. I just loved every minute of it!"

"Carrie,

I can't thank you enough for your extremely thorough training course.

You placed a massive emphasis on safety, which I feel is so important when teaching pre and post-natal yoga. I am so excited to be able to share all that I've learnt from you."

"Even though I had done prenatal yoga training before and I had a good basic understanding, I still felt like there were gaps in my knowledge.

I loved the face to face connection, the focus on safety,
the combination of learning through lectures, discussion and practice teaching was so helpful to full absorb the knowledge, the structure of the course, the genuine care and support between all of the participants, feeling encouraged to ask ANYTHING, I never felt awkward to ask questions even if I felt like they may be really basic.

I'm incredibly grateful for your guidance and support. My passion for teaching pregnant women has been reignited and I now feel so much more confident to teach.

The focus on safety was incredible and I feel lucky to have been part of such an inspiring and informative training! Thank you, Thank you! I hope that you continue to spread your wisdom with future trainees. You are a gifted facilitator and you should be incredibly proud of the work you do and the Course you have created."

Thank you Carrie!

Your course was so well rounded and educational, with something for everyone including for professional development for birth workers or yoga teachers. I had no prior yoga teaching experience so my knowledge was very limited,
I loved practicing teaching and building confidence with a small group of supportive peers. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I’m having better experiences in birth suite and I’m now teaching active birth classes at work which I never would have had the confidence to before.

Thanks Carrie - I loved immersing myself in this training and feel that teaching prenatal and postnatal yoga is incredibly important for birth preparation and recovery. The pregnancy yoga teaching was very well designed with theoretical content in the morning, followed by a yoga class and then teacher practice in the afternoon. I loved the yoga class each day, working in groups, learning from each other and the encouragement and positivity surrounding the classes.

I am planning on offering these classes to a group of socially disadvantaged women who are being supported in housing by the Royal Women's Hospital. I believe this initiative will be hugely beneficial.

This training was transformational!

At first, I decided to enrol just to be able to adjust my own yoga practice when I'm pregnant. However, after finishing the training, I would like to serve and teach yoga to pregnant people as is such an empowering way of getting ready for labour and birth!

Before doing this training I feel I didn't know much about how to teach yoga to pregnant people. We learnt a little bit in our 200hs YTT but I must admit I would have freaked out if a pregnant individual appeared at my class! I probably would not be inclusive enough or I may have delivered a class that may have not been safe for them!

I loved that we learned how to teach in a safe way, to support parents during their pregnancy, labour and birth, how to become strong and flexible as well as how to modify yoga poses according pregnancy discomforts or conditions. I really enjoyed learning about the different aspects of the postnatal period and how to teach a class in this regard. The training has so much content (anatomy, subtle anatomy, our role as teachers, etc) and a lot of practice which helped me a lot to build confidence when teaching. I highly recommend this course!

Teaching Prenatal Yoga

From the moment a woman falls pregnant, her body, mind and soul embark on a massive journey and she is forever changed.

Safely guide pregnant women through their yoga practice during this sacred time of their life

As a specialised Prenatal Yoga Teacher, you will have the unique opportunity to create and hold space for women and gently guide them through safe practices to help them find strength and stability on a physical, emotional, mental, energetic and spiritual level. Receive mentoring and guidance from Joymamma creator and Lead Trainer, Carrie Jeff - an important part of you becoming confident in yourself as a teacher.

During this in-depth training, you will learn how to adapt and modify poses for certain pregnancy conditions and safely guide women through each stage of their pregnancy. You will learn how Yoga can help ease pregnancy discomforts, release tension and reduce anxiety. The ancient practices of Yoga, meditation and pranayama are known to build physical and mental stamina and endurance and cultivate confidence and trust. When practiced during pregnancy, women can apply this learning not only to their ability to birth their babies, but to also help them become intuitive mothers, trusting in the innate wisdom that all women are born with. You will learn how Yoga and meditation can create a state of mind that has been linked with easier pregnancies, more comfortable birthing - and a calmer baby.

"By practicing meditation, a woman can learn to choose to create a state of consciousness that is associated with a quicker and less painful labour and birth. Women who meditate in pregnancy have reported easy birth experiences, often painless and often ecstatic. When birth is approached from a place of inner calm and trust, it can unfold in its natural way and be a positive initiation into motherhood."  Ten Moons - Jane Hardwicke Collings

Yoga for Birth Classes & Active Birth Workshops

Birth skills from a birth doula will enrich your classes and set you apart from other Yoga Teachers.

Learn from a Lead Trainer who is also a Birth Doula and HypnoBirthing Educator

Combining experienced Doula and HypnoBirthing knowledge, this training will help you create nourishing and informative Yoga for Birth classes to women as they approach birth. You will get to explore positions that can assist baby to get into an optimal position for birthing. Focusing on the hips and pelvis, there are many yoga poses that help with a baby's descent, rotation and journey into the world. You will learn that by teaching these skills to women, their own power increases tremendously enabling them to approach birth with confidence in themselves. Rather than seeking assistance from their external environment, Yoga helps women to move deeper towards their inner environment, which is where they will find their true strength.

Working with the 5 koshas and other elements of the subtle body (chakras) this approach to a Yoga practice can fulfil many more desires than just physical. As a woman approaches birth, journeying through her innermost layers prepares her for the depths she must reach to meet her baby.

You will learn how to create Active Birth workshops for couples to attend together. Using birth balls, massage, rebozo techniques, they are fun and rewarding sessions for you as a teacher where you can pass on your knowledge to partners, giving them an important role to play and ensuring women have the best support possible.
