A note on this work

HypnoBirthing has been a foundational part of my work with pregnant women for many years and continues to inform how I teach, mentor and lead within the perinatal space today.

While Joymamma has evolved to focus primarily on training and mentoring teachers, this work remains an important part of my professional lineage and ongoing contribution to birth education in Australia. The principles, physiology and philosophy of HypnoBirthing continue to shape how I support both families and educators to approach birth with knowledge and confidence.

I don’t promise anyone a painless or quiet birth.

What I do know - from many years of accompanying women and their partners through pregnancy and birth - is that the knowledge gained through HypnoBirthing can profoundly shape the birthing experience.

In my work as a birth doula, I have witnessed first-hand how understanding the physiology of birth, the role of the nervous system and the power of informed support can change how women experience labour emotionally, physically and psychologically. It is a deep honour to accompany families into their birth space and I hold this role with great respect and responsibility.

Birth partners play a vital role in supporting physiological birth. HypnoBirthing recognises that creating the conditions for birth to unfold - safety, calm, confidence and minimal disturbance - does not require clinical or medical training, but it does require education and awareness.

Throughout my years teaching HypnoBirthing, I have supported couples not only in learning practical tools, but in developing trust in the body, in the process of birth and in their ability to navigate whatever path their birth may take.

What is HypnoBirthing?

HypnoBirthing is a childbirth education approach grounded in the understanding that, for a healthy woman having a healthy baby, birth is a normal physiological process.

Birth is something we prepare for both physically and mentally. HypnoBirthing supports couples to understand how birth works, what influences it and how to work with the body rather than against it. It offers a practical toolkit of physical, mental and emotional skills that empower parents to approach labour and birth with confidence.

HypnoBirthing as a Foundational Credential

My work in HypnoBirthing has profoundly shaped how I train and mentor prenatal yoga teachers today.

Years of supporting women and their partners through pregnancy and birth and witnessing how physiology, environment, language and nervous system regulation directly influence outcomes, have given me a deep awareness of the responsibility teachers hold when working in the perinatal space.

This lived experience informs every aspect of my teacher training and graduate mentorship, including:
  • how I teach teachers to understand the physiology of pregnancy and birth
  • the importance of creating environments that support safety and trust
  • the role of language and tone in reducing fear and supporting nervous system regulation
  • the ethical responsibility of teaching within an appropriate scope of practice
  • preparing teachers for real-world complexity, rather than idealised scenarios

Rather than teaching techniques in isolation, I guide teachers to understand why they are offering particular practices, when to adapt and how to hold space responsibly for pregnant women and their partners.

This work sits at the heart of Joymamma - bridging embodied practice, evidence-based education and mentorship - and continues to shape how I support the next generation of prenatal yoga teachers.

This foundational work informs the values, care and depth that sit at the heart of the Joymamma Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training and Graduate Mentorship Pathway.
