what is a doula?
A birth doula helps expectant couples prepare for birth physically and mentally, accompanying and guiding them through the birth process so they can meet their babies with joy. A doula is a female support person to a woman before, during and after her birth. Doulas complement rather than replace midwives.
A doula’s role is to be there for the mother, to offer a loving understanding, respond to her deepest emotional needs, stay with her throughout labour and birth and to create an atmosphere in which the birth can be as positive as possible. A doula is also there as a support for the father and will help the couple work together according to their wishes.
Carrie supported us as our Doula and we could not fault her throughout the entire 36 hour (!!!) labour...she met us at the hospital entrance, encouraged, supported and stayed throughout the labour, even though we ended up with a c-section. She was present for the birth, (our Obstetrician encouraged and welcomed her to attend in theatre). My hubby was so glad she was there to support him, not only me. Carrie is such a special lady, she educated us in a technique that will last a lifetime for us, and we will never forget our experience with her and for her to experience our experience in bringing a perfect baby girl into the world!

Research and trials have shown that using a doula shortened labour, massively reduced the need for pain relief and medical intervention and resulted in healthier babies. Mothers who had used a doula reported less post-natal depression, greater self-esteem and more confidence about breast-feeding and baby care.
Evidence has shown that women supported by a doula during labour have been shown to have:
60% reduction in epidural requests
50% reduction of caesarean rate
40% reduction in assisted delivery
30% reduction in analgesia use
25% shorter labour

As a hypnobirthing specialist, yoga instructor and doula, my expertise is to understand the exquisitely sensitive interactions between the mind and body during childbirth.
I prepare women for birth physically and mentally through regular yoga, meditation and hypnobirthing classes. These courses help to cultivate the confidence and knowledge needed to feel empowered and strong for the huge journey of labour, birth and motherhood.

I was ecstatic, not exhausted. The first days and weeks of her life were pure bliss. Every mother deserves to experience this and it is possible with the right birth support! I am so thankful to Carrie for helping me.
Her support was exactly what I needed, she always knew what to say and when. As Ari was born Carrie was holding my hand and breathing her down with me (kindly reminding me when my pitch became too high)!
Thank you Carrie, I cannot speak highly enough of the support you gave both myself and Craig, you were an integral part of one of life’s most important events, the birth of a child.
